Welcome to MSCI

This site is always under construction. Features will be added and improved over the next few days and weeks. In the meantime, our mission remains constant. You might want to know that we are the teachers and speech coaches in Michigan's High Schools and Middle Schools who have built this organization to educate students, educational institutions and communities in Michigan about speech activities.

We also strive to develop speech education through extra-curricular debate, individual events, discussion and drama.

We think we can offer a lot of options to today's students and a lot of help to today's speech teachers and coaches.

MSCI is one of the most active and vital speech coaches' organization in the country. From our early fall Poetry Slam competition, to our end of the year premier event on Mackinac Island, there is always something productive for any speech student to do and to learn.

On these pages you will find a wealth of information about our organization, our tournaments and our profession. Feel free to look around as much as you want. But becoming a member does more to help keep speech activities vital than almost anything else you can do. Before you leave, please consider filling out a membership application or making a donation to keep this vital work going forward.

Join us and find out.

And, one other note: you don't have to BE from Michigan to join up. Any member from anywhere can participate in MSCI events. We'd love to bring together programs from all over the Midwest and Canada.

Dexter High School
Dexter, MI

Since 1994, the Dexter High School debate and forensics programs have grown under the direction of Debora Marsh. Since then, Dexter has been in the quarter final and semi final rounds of the Division II and Class B State Debate Tournaments, and won both the Novice State Tournament and the George Ziegelmueller Award as the Best Division II Debate Team in the 2001-2002 school year. In 2002-2003, Dexter won the Division II MIFA Varsity State Debate Tournament without dropping a single ballot, was the runner up in the MSCI JV State Debate Tournament and repeated as the George Ziegelmueller Award winner in Division II. Dexter forensics has had many quarterfinalists, semifinalists and finalists at the State Individual Events Tournament including last year's 1st place Informative Speaker, Abbey Craft. Dexter's program continues to grow because of the hard work of the students in the program and the generous grants it receives from the Dexter Education Foundation and the Dexter Schools PTO.
